John Farrell

John was appointed Director of Newry and Mourne District Council’s Environmental Health department in 2006. In 2011 he was appointed Director of the new directorate of Environment, Health and Building services. He has over 30 years experience in a wide range of Environmental Health issues. The new Directorate covers a wide range of functions including, Environmental Health, Building Control, Estates, Pollution Control, Health & Safety, Food Safety, Investing for Health, Litter and Dog enforcement, Licensing and Regulatory services, Port Health & Fisheries and Consumer Protection. Recently he has been working within the wider public health agenda to protect and improve health and well-being, helping to address major issues of obesity, sustainability and climate change. Since 2009 he has been co-chair of the Newry Low Carbon Project and leads the Councils activity on environmental issues, sustainable energy and biodiversity.
